Congresswoman and Ambassador Dani Dayan visit with local leaders from Chinese and South Asian communities
US Rep. Grace Meng recently welcomed Ambassador Dani Dayan, Israel’s Consul General in New York, to her congressional district in Queens.
Ambassador Dayan visited the 6th District to learn about the ethnic and cultural diversity that exists in the neighborhoods represented by Meng. The two met with Chinese American community leaders at Selfhelp Community Services in Flushing, an organization that serves elderly New Yorkers including those from the Jewish and Chinese communities. They also visited the Hindu Temple Society of North America, also located in Flushing.
“I thank Ambassador Dayan for traveling to Queens and for spending time here in the 6th District,” said Congresswoman Meng. “The borough of Queens is home to people from across the globe, and it was an honor to help him experience this rich diversity in my congressional district. I am confident that the visit had a meaningful impact on him and that he came away with a wonderful understanding of the many ethnicities, cultures, and religions that encompass the district’s different communities. I also thank all the local leaders we visited with for engaging in a productive and robust discussion, particularly on issues of mutual concern. The relationship between the United States and Israel is not just based on our joint defense or diplomatic programs, but is forged through people-to-people exchanges and in opportunities to share the best of our communities.
