Over Memorial Day Weekend, Queens Borough President candidate Elizabeth Crowley met with several Jewish leaders in the Kew Gardens Hills area and toured several small businesses in the area.
“I feel it is important our community learns more about Elizabeth Crowley because she is a good leader who shares our values,” said Rabbi Yoel Schonfeld.
During the visit, the candidate listened to concerns from store owners, rabbis, and other community members regarding the post-COVID recovery and the increase of antisemitism throughout Queens.
“Queens is an incredibly vibrant, diverse, and engaging community, and Kew Gardens Hills is no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces and friends throughout the weekend.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that the area can come back stronger than ever as our city reopens. However, I heard from many local Jewish leaders and small businesses owners about some concerning trends in the area. First and foremost, the rise of antisemitism is a deeply concerning issue that the next borough president must address head-on. There’s no time to waste; we must see immediate action to increase policing and build community engagement to combat the ugly recent vitriol and violence the Jewish community has experienced.
“In addition, every lever of the Queens borough president’s office must be pulled in order to assist small businesses with their reopening. First, Borough Hall must act as a conduit to business owners to inform them of all local and federal aid available. Furthermore, the office must work to ensure that all local voices are included in community boards.
“I appreciate the opportunity to exchange ideas and hear about the concerns of the Kew Gardens Hills Jewish community. I can’t wait to come back over the coming weeks and fight for the neighborhood as borough president,” said Elizabeth Crowley.
