On Monday night, February 17, the Queens Jewish Hockey League (QJHL) held its championship game at the Yeshiva of Central Queens. The players were surprised to have a special guest referee – Josh Markowitz – former starting goalie for the YU Roller Hockey team. The two teams in the game were Wasserman’s vs. Allstate–The Meltzer Group.

From the time the puck dropped, it was an intense and skillful game. Wasserman’s struck first with a goal by Yehuda Rosenbaum in the middle of the second period. Allstate answered back with a goal by Gabi Newman. Tied 1-1 with just over two minutes left in the game, Aron Biderman scored the winning goal for Allstate–The Meltzer Group, crowning them The Champions.

At the end of the game, before the championship trophies were handed out, the Ari Fuld z”l Memorial “GIBOR” award was presented to two players, Sruly Stern and Yisroel Tennanbaum, for outstanding sportsmanship and derech eretz throughout the season. The night was capped off with handshakes, smiles, and anticipation for the next season.

We would like to thank YCQ for hosting the championship game in their gym. We would also like to thank our team sponsors for this season: Maven Auto Sales, Main Street Bagels, Wasserman’s Supermarket, and Allstate–The Meltzer Group.
