After a perpetually hot summer, it’s refreshing to write about the fashion trends for fall 2019. Welcome to the return of the ‘90s, ‘80s, ‘70s, and to fashions that cannot be traced to any past decade. Fall showcases a rainbow of color including various shades of pink, red, orange, yellow, green, lilac, and brown and an eclectic mix of options, with something in store for everyone. Whether you’re the sophisticated type, a gutsy gal, or the classic and more conservative kind, find what speaks to you because the season’s possibilities are endless.

Power suits are back once again and include wide shoulders with belted waists to emphasize the feminine silhouette. Whether you wear a fitted or oversized jacket, be sure to cinch the waist. You can even add a belt to an old blazer to update your look. If you want to turn into a superhero, sport a cape this season. Many of the fall suits even come with a little capelet for added allure. Tweeds are also quite popular this season and can be found from capes and belted coats to suits and pleated skirts. If you’re mad for plaid, opt for the preppy look. Leather dresses in beautiful shades have also made a comeback.

Pockets abound this season and can be found on sporty dresses, skirts, and even outerwear. You can now tote your essentials in a chic manner. If you’re the sporty and artsy type or want a touch of bohemian, the quilted patchwork look is for you. Fleece jackets and faux shearling are also in style and will keep you toasty all season long.

Feminine, dark floral patterns lend a romantic look to evening wear. Many of these dresses are waisted as well for a more feminine appearance. Edwardian embellishments such as exaggerated collars can also be found among these floral prints. Asymmetrical necklines and lopsided shoulders are also back. Choose a metallic or 14K gold-colored dress for an elegant party outfit, or you can even look lovely in a feminine lace outfit. Gowns this season have lots of volume with added bows and ruffles for extra soft drama. They are also nipped at the waist to maintain the feminine silhouette. Birds of a feather always flock together, so if you’re a trendsetter try choosing something embellished with ostrich feathers for some added elegance. Pair any of these choices with a newly shaped, beautiful, small and structured evening bag in a boxy shape or opt for a playful, itsy bitsy textured one. This can surely add an aura of drama and creativity to your look.

Outerwear runs the gamut this season. You will notice double breasted and belted khaki or loden green coats with brass button embellishments for a military feel. You can also spot leopard print coats, jackets, and capes as well. The long structured and ankle-skimming statement coats of heavy wool will keep you toasty throughout winter. Say goodbye to the beanie hats, because bucket hats are now back.

Makeup and fashion are a perfect pair and enhance one another to create a harmonious look. As designers showcase their newest creations (which are sent down the runway, two seasons ahead), the beauty industry follows suit, taking its cue from the latest Pantone colors, thereby creating fresh and exciting new looks. With so many beautiful fashion options, read next week’s column and learn how to incorporate the newest makeup trends to recreate the face of fall from runway to reality.
