As lockdowns have been lifted, chances are that masks are here to stay for a while, until a COVID vaccine becomes available. The new norm of wearing face masks has totally changed the beauty industry. Gone are the days of statement lips, while eye makeup is leading the world of beauty by storm. The pandemic doesn’t have to make you forgo all efforts in looking good. In fact, applying eye makeup can be a great way to express some creativity, bring a sense of normalcy to your life, and the best way to accentuate the most expressive area and the part of your face that’s visible. The following tips will help you bring attention to the focal point of your face.

1

First, hydrate your skin, especially your under-eye area, in order to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. An eye cream with hydrating ingredients, plus those that combat puffiness, will do wonders for your eyes and act as a magic eraser.

2

Use a primer to lock in your moisturizer and keep your makeup from migrating, in order to avoid touching your face throughout the day. Then apply a light foundation, followed by an under eye concealer, which will erase the dark circles and cover the imperfections under your eyes. This is essential because a mask will certainly showcase the flaws underneath your eyes. Next, you can either use an eye primer to cover the entire eye area from lid to brow. In the event you don’t have an eye primer, you can use the concealer as a substitute. In order to ensure that your creams stay in place, use loose or pressed powder to set your cream products. This will help the foundation, concealer, and primer last all day, especially throughout the summer’s heat.

Taking care of your brows is a must, especially when your eyes are showcased while wearing a mask. Unruly brows can really be distracting! Remember that your brows create a beautiful frame for your eyes. Be sure to invest in a good tweezer to shape and remove any stray hairs. A brow pencil in the right shade is also imperative to fill in the sparse spots, while a brow sealer will set and help create longevity, thus preventing the products from fading away on a summer day.

Eye makeup can be fun and the best way to emphasize your eyes. It’s a great method to easily express creativity. Shimmery shadows applied to your eyelids will cast light and brighten your eyes instantly. You can also use bolder eye shadows that compliment your mask. Begin with a light or bright shade on the lids, use a medium transition color, followed by the darkest shade in the crease, and a shimmery highlighter under the browbones and inner corners of the eyes in order to lift, open, and brighten the area. Before applying your shadows, always dust off the excess powder from the brush so that the look does not become messy. Another alternative would be to use a cream shadow on the lids, which will not smear and can easily be applied with fingers as well. Just be sure to wash hands before so your makeup is hygienic. Always apply your eyeliner last to complete the look. Liner is probably the most highly effective makeup tool to emphasize, enlarge, and brighten your eyes. You can apply a thin line along the upper lashline and tightline the upper inner waterline to really define and make the eyes pop. Other alternatives are to line the outer third of the eye in order to enlarge and wing outwards to lift the eyes.  Finally, curl your lashes and apply mascara close to the root of the lashline going upwards.

Instead of lipstick, use a vitamin E stick to help keep your lips moist and plump. There’s no point applying lipstick or lip gloss if you will be wearing your mask, because it’ll get quite messy and smear all over your face underneath the mask.

Taking care of your appearance and applying some eye makeup will give your face an instant boost, so have some fun, experiment, and find what speaks to you. Look at the bright side: During this time, a mask can easily cover up a double chin. Plus, you only need to concentrate on the upper half of your face in order to look good.

Wishing everyone a healthy and safe summer.
