Ancient Japanese Beauty Recipe

By Risselle Naimark

Vanity, thy name is woman! No matter what culture, country, or time in history, it seems women always cared about their faces. Japan is a nation that is obsessed with natural beauty regimens and known for its clear, glossy, and healthy skin. Although the latest buzz in skincare, like dual cleansing systems and sheet masks, emanates from Korea, its neighbor on the East maintains ancient and cherished beauty rituals filled with old-school wisdom. Read on to get a glimpse into an old Japanese beauty secret.

Rice masks, natural exfoliants, have been a Japanese beauty ritual for centuries. Known for its anti-aging properties and rich with B complex vitamins, rice can help stimulate cell growth and renewal. It also has the ability to slow down the aging process and has properties to improve the blood supply to the skin. Rice is a good source of squalene, which helps collagen production and offers some protection from sun damage. The linoleic acid in rice also has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties.

The following DIY beauty recipe is the secret of Japanese women and has been used to prevent premature aging and help create bright, smooth, and silky skin. If you want a natural mask that’s safe for a sensitive complexion or are just in the mood to whip up an easy and homemade concoction for your face, try the following recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons rice
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Place 3 tablespoons rice in a small bowl and pour 1 cup water over it. Bring to a boil, and then let simmer for 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Let the rice cool off and then strain the mixture from the rice water. Store the boiled and strained rice in a glass container and add 1 tablespoon warm milk and 1 tablespoon honey. Next, mix all the ingredients to make a paste. Apply the mixture to a clean face (avoiding the eye area) and leave on for 20-30 minutes. You can actually use the strained rice water to rinse off the paste and afterward rinse with clean, warm water.

Sometimes the simple and wholesome ingredients in your pantry can take on a new dimension. Why not be adventurous and give it a try?
