Following its longstanding practice, K’hal Adas Yereim of Kew Gardens and Richmond Hill held a legal holiday Yarchei Kallah program in its beis hamedrash on Monday, September 5, Labor Day.
An intriguing shiur exploring the halachos and deeper meaning behind a pruzbul was shared by noted posek Rav Herschel Welcher, mara d’asra at Congregation Ahavas Yisroel of Kew Gardens Hills. Shul and community members enthusiastically learned the practical laws and intricacies addressing the nullification of debts during Shemitah and how to claim them thereafter. During the period of the Second Beis Hamikdash, many were reluctant to lend money for fear of not recovering the funds, so the practice of using a halachic pruzbul was instituted by Hillel HaTanna.
