YCQ Kindergarten Students Receive ‘Starter Siddurim’

Last week, kindergarten students at YCQ reached a special milestone by receiving their very own “starter siddurim.” The siddurim serve as a foundational introduction to tefillah readiness, equipping students with the skills needed as they transition toward using a formal siddur. These siddurim will follow the students into first grade, where they will use them until they receive their siddurim at the Chagigat HaSiddur.

The starter siddur was a collaborative effort compiled by Early Childhood Director Morah Shana Weiss, Judaic Studies Director Morah Mashie Kopelowitz, and the Kindergarten Moros. Their primary objective was to instill a sense of kedushah and excitement about tefilah from an early age.

The siddur includes various tefilos paired with relevant illustrations for the students to color. This enables students to build a greater understanding and appreciation of the text as they engage with each page. Through this hands-on approach, students learn essential practical skills, such as how to correctly handle a siddur and which direction to open it, while discovering the spiritual significance of the words and pictures within.
