There’s a special energy at YSZ High School for Girls when the school comes together for chesed! With the senior Israel trip approaching, YSZ students are mobilizing for three exciting initiatives to bring warmth, support, and smiles to their brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael.
The girls are collecting warm beanies for Israeli soldiers, handcrafting friendship bracelets to sell in support of soldiers, and organizing a toy drive for children battling cancer in Israeli hospitals. Last year, YSZ seniors brought four suitcases filled with toys to Hadassah Hospital’s oncology ward and distributed every last one, bringing smiles and joy to children facing difficult circumstances.
But the impact of these projects goes far beyond the recipients. There is something powerful about the enthusiasm and achdut that chesed generates throughout the school. As girls work together, encourage others to participate, and give of themselves, they experience what it means to be part of something greater than themselves.
At YSZ, chesed is more than an activity. It is an expression of areyvut, our shared responsibility for klal Yisrael, and an opportunity to turn our love and concern for our fellow Jews into meaningful action. And the joy of giving is contagious!
