The Torah in several places warns us not to sacrifice our children to the pagan idol Molech (see Vayikra 18:21). As we know from Rashi, Molech involved building two bonfires for the idol and having one’s son walk in between the fires.
The Babylon Bee, a Christian satire news website, ran an article declaring that Massachusetts Democrats unveiled a statue of Molech at the state capitol. Complete with a picture of the statue, the piece went on to say how Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey announced the statue in conjunction with the state’s new law allowing infanticide.
It may be satire, but the message is real. Governor Healey signed legislation that allowed a mother to abort her unborn child up to the point of birth (with a doctor’s consent).
It is truly unbelievable that a governor would sign such legislation, in front of a cheering crowd no less. It seems to me to be point-blank murder of a fully developed child. And this is coming from the same people who condemn the death penalty even for the most heinous criminals because the state cannot take the life of another human being. It’s another case of liberalism having run amok.
I remember during the hearing process for approving Judge Robert Bork to the Supreme Court that objections were raised, chiefly by Senator Ted Kennedy. His argument was that since Judge Bork was not pro-choice (a nice way of saying pro-abortion), we would find that women would go down a “slippery slope” and have abortions done in a back alley using a wire hanger.
Well, look at the slippery slope that pro-abortion has brought about: from abortion clinics to mothers anesthetizing their own infants. This is truly an outrage.
It is bad enough that the legislation was signed, but to a cheering audience? Where is their decency? Where is their care for the helpless little human being?
It’s the same mentality that dismisses the atrocities of October 7 and substitutes them with a fraudulent claim of genocide. They are all cases of backward thinking.
