Educational, inspirational, and fun programming continued for Emet students over Chol HaMoed Sukkos. The fall semester of the Forest Hills Leaders Fellowship made its debut in the spacious sukkah at Beth Gavriel. Students from multiple college campuses embarked on this introduction to Judaism class with their first evening of learning. After being treated to dinner and opening remarks by Rabbi Reuven Kigel, Campus Director, the young men and women broke off into smaller groups for in-depth learning led by Emet rabbis and m’karvos. It was a promising start to a highly anticipated semester.

As October draws to a close, fashion blogger Elizabeth Savetsky and artist Elizabeth Sen will join bereaved parents from all walks of life to share their devastating journeys of loss and healing at NechamaComfort’s annual fundraising event. For the first time in the organization’s history, the event will be entirely virtual through a free live stream accessible across the globe at 8 p.m. (EST) on October 25.

Did you know that you could take a trip around the world, viewing all sorts of exotic sites, just by taking a walk in our local Flushing Meadows Corona Park? This park crowns our neighborhood with diverse fun recreation and natural beauty, but also holds a fascinating history of literally rising from the ashes.

At the Margaret Tietz sukkah, Rabbi Pearlman held a lovely program for with some of our residents that was enjoyed by all.  The facility has been COVID-free for more than four months, enabling this special program to be held socially distanced, with all the proper precautions in place.  In addition, resident family members were able to make reservations, with limited numbers, to enjoy the Yom Tov with their loved ones.  Guidelines were followed with one family attending at a time.  Schedules were made well in advance for the enjoyment of the resident. It is important even in a limited way to continue to bring these holiday celebrations to our residents and thank the staff for always going above and beyond to help make this a reality.
