Around 200 community members filled the Young Israel of Queens Valley (YIQV) main sanctuary in Kew Gardens Hills this past Sunday evening, February 15. The Ray of Hope program brought together rabbanim, mental health professionals, educators, and community leaders for an open conversation addressing mental health, trauma, and healing within the Orthodox Jewish community.

Parshas T’tzaveh teaches us about the oil used to light the Menorah: “And you shall command the Children of Israel that they shall take for you pure olive oil, crushed for illumination, to kindle the lamp continually.” The Menorah’s flame was not lit just once, but constantly, reminding us that our connection with Hashem must be steady and consistent.

The Young Israel of Jamaica Estates played host to a powerful evening organized by the Queens Jewish Link last Wednesday night. The event celebrated local heroes who have stood firm in the face of rising anti-Semitism, supported Jewish education, and championed pro-Israel causes. Amidst a backdrop of anti-Semitic challenges in New York City, the United States, and beyond, the gathering brought together community leaders, Holocaust survivors, and public advocates to honor resilience and unity. With speeches that blended personal stories, political commentary, and calls to action, the night underscored the enduring spirit of the Jewish people.
