Each year, HANC seniors are given the opportunity to choose between a professional internship and a week of dynamic seminars to culminate their high school experience. This year, we had a record number of seniors participating in exciting internships. Seniors who opted for seminars heard from dynamic presenters who led interactive workshops on various important topics.

Those seniors who chose to intern did so in a variety of interesting settings. Several students worked with young entrepreneurs who run Internet-based retail businesses, while others shadowed lawyers, real estate brokers, and doctors.

A handful of seniors worked in schools and early childhood centers, and some were learning the ropes in medical offices. We even had a few students who secured coveted spots in the fashion industry! At the conclusion of their internship, students are required to submit an essay detailing their experience and how they feel it can help them in the future. Thank you to Ms. Brienne Schiano from College Guidance for spear-heading the senior internship program.

For those who chose to attend senior seminars, we ran three exciting programs each day on a variety of topics. All of the seminars were designed to help students with the transition from high school to college, Israel, and beyond. Seminars addressed issues including Israel on campus from Stand WithUS, college life and career planning, networking with the JWE (Jewish Women’s Entrepreneurs), health issues, ORA, Krav Maga, and an interactive sensitivity training by YACHAD. A heartfelt appreciation goes to the alumni Maddie Hamada (’16), Jillian Fisch (’17), and Jonah Maryles (’17), who led our Q&A session regarding their experiences dealing with anti-Israel sentiment on their respective campuses.

We also had several sessions that were Torah-based, which included Rabbi Aryeh Lebowitz and Rabbi Doniel Kalish. During each seminar, seniors were also given the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about issues that truly resonate for them.
