The staff and students of IVDU LI were excited to begin the year this week, greeting old and new friends and reacquainting with all of the staff.

The year began with our students immersed in hands-on learning of Rosh HaShanah halachos and minhagim, led by our Rebbe, Rabbi Peretz Lipka. The students tasted different apples and voted on their favorite ones, heard the shofar blows from different-sized shofaros, and learned of the various simanim that relate to the Yom Tov.

The staff and administration of IVDU LI wish everyone a k’sivah v’chasimah tovah and a healthy and productive year for all.

MTA talmidim were hard at work in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Ida, volunteering in their local communities. Talmidim helped families whose homes were damaged by the storm with cleanup and debris removal. “We are so proud of our talmidim, who are always willing to go above and beyond to help those in need,” said Director of Guidance Mrs. Tamar Sheffey. “At MTA, we work hard to instill the value of chesed within our talmidim, and it’s incredible to watch, first hand, as they put what they have learned to use and make an impact on their communities.”

The Yeshiva of Central Queens (YCQ) prepared for the new year with the first Parent-Child learning program. On Motza’ei Shabbos, August 28, Rabbi Shmuel Marcus, Senior Maggid Shiur at Beis Medrash L’Talmud at Touro’s Lander College for Men and rav of the Young Israel of Queens Valley of Kew Gardens Hills, joined YCQ staff, students, and their parents for an evening of inspiration, followed by a beautiful S’lichos led by Rabbi Moshe Hamel, JHS assistant principal of Judaic Studies.

It was with great excitement that Central welcomed students and faculty back home last week! After a wonderful summer, we are back, refreshed, and ready for the best year Central has ever seen. While all Central teachers have exciting, enriching lessons and programs planned, our students in 10th grade and AP Chemistry began the year by participating in a special CPR training program. The students will be trained and certified in the lifesaving skills of CPR and other first aid tools. Aviva Kessock, a sophomore from Oceanside, explained that she’s grateful for the program because “these classes not only taught me how to act properly in a situation where CPR would be necessary, but it showed me that you never know what can happen, so you should always be prepared.”
