Norman Finkelstein alleges that Israel has committed genocide by attempting to annihilate the Palestinians in Gaza. Moreover, in a recent podcast, Finkelstein denied that heinous abuses were committed by Hamas on and after October 7, 2023. Finkelstein has a long history of anti-Israel activities. In an essay dated October 7, 2023, in response to the Hamas-led massacre of Israeli civilians on that day, Finkelstein wrote, “We honored the heroic resistance of Gaza… The stars above in heaven are looking kindly down. Glory, glory hallelujah.”

At 9:11 p.m. on September 11, 2026, with Yankee Stadium packed for a Subway Series game built around the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, a man sprinted out of the left-field seats waving a Palestinian flag. The clock was not a coincidence. Security chased him into center field and tackled him on the grass. Fans above the Mets bullpen pelted him with beer cans. Then the stadium did what New York used to do without being told: it erupted in “USA” chants.

The beginning of a New Year is always a time of thoughtful reflection that inherently comes along with all-day davening. Coincidentally, or perhaps by design, this year’s Rosh HaShanah lands on the same weekend as the 25th anniversary of September 11 and 50 days before New Yorkers vote for governor. If you want a new year that is actually new, start with the people who have been running this state into the ground.

The 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America on Sept. 11, 2001 has come and gone. Despite criticisms and pleas from many of the families of the victims as well as others, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani attended the ceremony held at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza in what was Ground Zero on that awful day. After days of massive attention focused on the commemoration of the attacks, the media and the political class quickly moved on to other contemporary issues and crises.

The only event in New York City that wastes more time and energy than the Met Gala is occurring this week, when leaders from all around the world gather for the United Nations General Assembly. While New Yorkers wait in traffic and shell out for the overtime using up NYC resources, hundreds of politicians will line up to say words that no one will pay attention to while nothing gets done, as is the UN’s MO.
