Since assuming office, Assemblymember Sam Berger of Queens’ 27th District has discussed important matters of his constituents. As a proud Orthodox Jew, Berger understands and is unfortunately all too aware of the rise in hate crimes occurring in our community and state.
With the rise of anti-Semitism, it is imperative to ensure that the current law and the current prosecutorial list of hate crimes is amended to include additional offenses, such as graffiti, arson, gang assault, to make sure that those who commit any form of hate-fueled criminal activity are taken seriously. As such, Berger is already a cosponsor for bill A.8261 and truly believes in the positive impact it will have on our state. Furthermore, with the rise of hate crimes, it is paramount that we remain vigilant and protect ourselves. With this in mind, Berger has also supported the expansion of security funding for nonpublic schools.
