On Sunday evening, September 29, at 7:00 p.m., Rabbi Aryeh Lebowitz, Rosh Yeshivah and Abraham Arbesfeld Torah Dean of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University and Rav of the Beis HaKnesses of North Woodmere, will give the second annual Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills Pre-Rosh HaShanah Shiur.
The shiur is a program of the Rabbi Fabian Schonfeld Adult Education Center. The founding Rabbi of YIKGH, known worldwide for his wisdom and scholarship, Rabbi Fabian Schonfeld served the shul for over six decades and believed that adult education was an integral part of a shul’s mission. Inaugurated in 2021, the Center runs a program of shiurim, lectures, and scholar-in-residence Shabbasos.
Rabbi Lebowitz, who is a world-class scholar and teacher, who is known throughout the Jewish community for his erudition and pedagogy, will speak on the topic “Becoming a Yom Kippur Jew: How Yom Kippur Can Serve As a Model for the Rest of the Year.”
Rabbi Lebowitz grew up in the Five Towns. Originally wanting to be a lawyer, after spending two post-high school years at Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh and developing a close relationship with Rav Ahron Silver, who encouraged him to pursue a career as a rabbi, he changed course. He studied at Yeshiva University, where he was a close student of Rav Hershel Schachter and received semichah from RIETS and from Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg.
Rabbi Lebowitz has gained widespread popularity for his famous “10-Minute Halachah” and Daf Yomi shiurim (which can be found of YUTorah.org, along with thousands of his other shiurim). He has published over 10,000 shiurim and articles on YUTorah, the most of anyone on the site.
Due to the large crowd expected to attend the shiur, the YCQ lot will be available for parking beginning at 6:30 p.m. Men and women are invited to attend.
