Forty boys from Kew Gardens and Richmond Hill enjoyed a free end-of-summer trip to Adventureland, organized by Khal Adas Yereim of Kew Gardens. This provided local families with a welcome activity during the often-challenging stretch between the end of camp and the start of the school year.

The full-day outing included transportation, admission, refreshments, and lunch, all at no cost to participating families. Project LEAD, OCFS, and New York State Assembly Members Andrew Hevesi and David Weprin sponsored the trip. The program demonstrated what local elected officials, community organizations, and shuls can accomplish by working together to support parents during the time between the end of camp and the start of school.

The boys, in grades two through eight, spent the day enjoying Adventureland’s rides and attractions before returning to Kew Gardens in the early evening. Parents and boys alike were thrilled with the outing and grateful for the opportunity.

Organizers extended the effort to local girls as well, holding a similar end-of-summer program the following day.
