Chaverim of Queens and Great Neck members are the unsung heroes who stand on the front lines day and night serving the Queens community, without flair, and with humility and honor, going strong since 2007 with absolute dedication and devotion.
Whenever, whatever - Chaverim is the friend you have come to rely on and can count upon in your time of need. Over the years, the organization has assisted thousands of stranded motorists, aided residents with lockouts, floods, children locked in cars or homes, and many more vital services.
Its volunteer base of over 130 members dispatch and respond to thousands of calls yearly, some as simple as a flat tire or a stalled vehicle, while others are more perilous, like when a child is trapped in a sweltering car. Of note is the incredible response time and turnout of assistance in life-threatening situations.
While every member is a volunteer giving of their time and expertise generously - as there are no paid employees in Chaverim - this comes with a hefty price tag. Top-of-the-line equipment remains a priority. Updating the group’s communications has become a dire concern. An updated dispatch system with a mobile application allowing members to respond more efficiently and effectively has risen to an urgent matter. There is also an ever-present exigence for an all-purpose vehicle that will translate to quicker response times.
Chaverim of Queens and Great Neck now turns to the community as the organization embarks on its first-ever crowdfunding fundraising campaign. Without any other revenue, the responsibility rests solely upon readers like you, the ones on the receiving end of the services, to foot the bill. The time to give back is now!
Annually, Chaverim provides educational and safety awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving and offers designated sober drivers to assist those in the community who may not be fit to drive over Purim.
During Covid, Chaverim volunteers experienced what true chesed means, as its membership assisted elderly with grocery shopping and rides to necessary medical appointments, among other services, and the list goes on and on…
Chaverim of Queens and Great Neck maintains a close relationship and open lines of communication with local law enforcement, as well as elected officials, who have been utilized countless times to benefit the community-at-large.
