Yeshiva Har Torah commemorated October 7 with a meaningful program that invited students to reflect on the tragedy, honor the courage of those who responded, and consider their own connection to the Jewish people.
Following an introduction by YHT’s Bnot Sherut, Naama and Tzofiya, students in Grades 5-8 heard from Sam Fried, a New York native and First Sergeant in Israel’s 890th Paratrooper Battalion. Fried shared his experience as a lone soldier and his decision to return to Israel after the October 7, 2023, attacks to rejoin his unit. His story brought a personal perspective to the meaning of responsibility, sacrifice, and standing alongside fellow Jews in their time of need. He also discussed his ongoing efforts to support Jewish organizations and combat anti-Semitism throughout the United States.
Third- and fourth-grade students participated in classroom discussions about how the Jewish people can come together during times of tragedy. These conversations encouraged students to recognize that even small acts of kindness and support can strengthen a community. Through remembrance and reflection, YHT reinforced a lasting message: Every student has a role in caring for others and strengthening the bonds that unite the Jewish people.
