MTA’s freshman class enjoyed an unforgettable Shabbaton this past weekend at Camp Kaylie, filled with exciting activities, meaningful Torah learning, and opportunities to build friendships with classmates and rebbeim. With sunny skies and crisp fall temperatures providing the perfect autumn backdrop, the three-day getaway was an incredible opportunity for the talmidim to bond as a grade and strengthen their connection to the MTA family.

The excitement began on Thursday afternoon with a trip to Boundless Adventures, where the freshmen kicked off their weekend together before heading to Camp Kaylie. Following supper, the evening was packed with entertainment, including an incredible magic show by Sam Jacobs and a late-night Mystery Munch.

Friday brought even more opportunities for fun and friendly competition. After Shacharis and morning shiurim with their rebbeim, talmidim enjoyed a variety of activities, including hiking, flag football and basketball tournaments, and board games. The beautiful fall weather made it a perfect day to enjoy Camp Kaylie’s outdoor facilities while spending time with friends and classmates.

As Shabbos approached, the atmosphere shifted from action-packed excitement to the warmth and inspiration of Shabbos together. Following Kabbalas Shabbos and a drashah by Menahel Rabbi Shimon Schenker, the freshmen gathered for a spirited seudas Shabbos, complete with z’miros and divrei Torah by Jake Abramowitz. The evening continued with chaburos led by resident advisors and alumni, a hilarious MTA Newlyweds game, and an uplifting tish with Rabbi Axelrod.

Shabbos day offered a wonderful balance of Torah learning, relaxation, and connection. Talmidim participated in shiurim with their rebbeim, enjoyed spirited Shabbos seudos featuring divrei Torah from Rabbi Balsam and Sani Kahan, and spent time together through informal activities and conversations. A highlight of the afternoon was the Fellowship Sushi Seder, bringing talmidim together for another opportunity to learn and connect in a relaxed setting.

The Shabbaton concluded on Motza’ei Shabbos with Havdalah and a Melaveh Malkah before the freshmen headed home with great memories and stronger friendships.

More than just a weekend away, the Freshman Shabbaton reflected what makes the MTA experience so special. From spirited competitions and shared laughter to meaningful conversations and inspiring moments of Torah, the weekend gave talmidim the opportunity to connect with their rebbeim and one another beyond the classroom. It was a wonderful way to strengthen the sense of achdus and belonging that will continue to grow throughout their four years at MTA.
