The boys in Yeshiva Tiferes Moshe’s grades five through eight celebrated Rosh Chodesh Iyar with special breakfasts last week. On Sunday, the seventh and eighth grades were treated to hot bagels, cream cheese, chocolate milk, and cupcakes. They also had the opportunity to hear words of Torah from Rabbi Herschel Welcher, rav of Congregation Ahavas Yisroel.
Rabbi Welcher spoke about the preparation necessary for Kabalas HaTorah that we must accomplish during the days of S’firah. He noted that Pesach was an opportunity to grow in areas of bein adam laMakom, while S’firah is a time to reflect on the tragedy that befell Rabbi Akiva’s talmidim and strengthen ourselves in bein adam laMakom. We learn from their demise that proper derech eretz is a critical component for the transmission of Torah.
On Monday, it was the fifth and sixth grades’ turn to enjoy getting together in honor of Rosh Chodesh. They, too, received a delicious breakfast, while also receiving inspiration from our very own Rabbi Chaim Wagner. Rabbi Wagner spoke about learning from S’firas HaOmer to make each day count. He explained, with a beautiful mashal, that each day’s accomplishments do not just stand alone, but they give the opportunity to build on for the next day. The accumulation of those achievements, over time, will be very significant. YTM thanks both Rabbi Welcher and Rabbi Wagner for their inspiring words, and the Yeshiva looks forward to the talmidim carrying that inspiration through the coming month and beyond.
