On Sunday, April 6, the streets of Jamaica Estates were filled with joy and timeless Jewish melodies as Queens Shmira, in partnership with the NYPD 107 Precinct, proudly led a spirited hachnasas sefer Torah procession. The uplifting event dedicated the new sefer Torah to the House of Torah congregation.

The procession began along 80th Road, just off 185th Street. The community gathered to celebrate the arrival of the sefer Torah, joyfully escorting it through the streets, singing classic Sephardic melodies, dancing, and filling the air with Jewish pride. The foot parade culminated at House of Torah, whose sanctuary on 80th Drive, just off 182nd Street, is easily recognized by the oversized mezuzah proudly affixed to its doorway.

Throughout the evening, the achdus – unity and camaraderie – was truly palpable, as both guests of the simchah and community members joined together to celebrate this momentous occasion, with Pesach just days away.

In keeping with tradition, the final letters of the sefer Torah were auctioned off, with all proceeds generously donated to tz’dakah, serving as a beautiful reminder of the joy of giving.

Queens Shmira ensured that the march was conducted safely and smoothly. A group of volunteers were on hand to help guide the celebrants. “It’s an honor for Queens Shmira and our dedicated public safety volunteers to be invited to provide safety measures at such uplifting festivities,” said Avraham Pinkhasov, Coordinator at Queens Shmira. “The sense of togetherness, especially with Pesach approaching, is truly special.”

Mazal Tov to the House of Torah k’hilah. May the new sefer Torah bring the brachah of chochmas Torah, parnasah, nachas, and shalom bayis to all.
