Rabbi Moshe Sokoloff will deliver a pre-Rosh HaShanah shiur on Sunday, September 6, examining the halachic and conceptual significance of Rosh HaShanah falling on Shabbos.

The Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills, in conjunction with Agudath Israel of Kew Gardens Hills, will host the program at 7 p.m., following Minchah, at YIKGH, 70-11 150th Street. The shiur, titled “Preparing for Rosh HaShanah That Falls on Shabbos,” is part of the Rabbi Fabian Schonfeld Adult Education Center’s programming.

The subject is particularly timely this year, as the first day of Rosh HaShanah coincides with Shabbos. Rabbi Sokoloff has previously addressed the lomdus behind why the shofar is not blown when Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbos, and the upcoming shiur will explore additional halachic and conceptual aspects of the unusual calendar configuration.

Rabbi Sokoloff is the mara d’asra of Agudath Israel of Kew Gardens Hills and delivers two weekly shiurim at the Young Israel of Woodmere. He studied at Yeshiva Shaar HaTorah for more than 16 years and received semichah from Rosh HaYeshivah Rabbi Kalman Epstein, shlit”a.

Rabbi Sokoloff later taught halachah at Yeshiva Ateres Yaakov for five years and spent approximately twelve years as a rebbe at Yeshiva Toras Halachah in Kew Gardens Hills. This z’man, he returned to Yeshiva Shaar HaTorah in Kew Gardens as a night seder rebbe.

His shiurim also reach audiences online. More than 1,000 of his shiurim and articles on Gemara, halachah, t’filah, kashrus, Yamim Tovim, and contemporary issues are available on YUTorah.org. Additional presentations are available through JewishPodcasts.fm and the 24Six app.
