Of all the political platitudes that have been thrown around by people defending their own actions or attacking their opponents, the greatest lie of them all is “No one is above the law.” There are literally dozens of cities and several states that put a lot of effort into ensuring that there are plenty of people who are above the law. The nation as a whole has long accepted the fact that there are high-level politicians who are above the law. So, when the Biden DOJ emulates Peruvian communists from a century ago, claiming that “for my friends, everything; for my enemies, the law,” we have entered banana republic tyranny.

This is not to excuse Trump’s actions regarding the classified documents; that is the unenviable job for his lawyers to do. The indictment lays out the case against Trump, and as has happened many times before, his defenders will defend him and his attackers will attack him. Yet that is largely irrelevant to the path that we are now going down in our nation’s history because of the “win at all costs” mentality of today’s Democratic Party.

Dirty tactics are not new; neither is using your own office’s power to maintain said power. Imagine for a moment, however, that this set of circumstances was happening in Russia or China or other nations that Americans view as single-party dictatorships. Let’s say Vladimir Putin hid documents in his house. Not only that, but an ally of his did the same. Not only that, but there were credible accusations that Putin took bribes and there was public evidence that his son not only took bribes but committed several other felonies on tape. After all this, Putin’s law enforcement does absolutely nothing. Yet when his political enemy, the previous Russian president and chief rival, does a similar (or in many ways lesser) version of this same crime, the prosecutor finally snaps into action.

If you heard this, would you not say, “What is going on over there? Thank G-d, I live in America, where these shenanigans don’t occur.” Of course! Yet this is exactly what’s happening in this country, today.

So, when people say, “No one is above the law,” do not just ask them about Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Hillary Clinton. Ask them about rioters in 2020, the looters who commit such high levels of shoplifting that franchises in major cities either close down or keep all their merchandise locked up. When they accuse you of “whataboutism,” you know they don’t even believe their own arguments.

The funny thing is that while Trump led chants of “Lock her up” in 2016 and told Hillary Clinton that she’d be in jail if he were in charge, during his tenure he did not sic his DOJ on her like Biden did to him. Perhaps on some gut level, Trump actually did respect the de facto immunity given to high-ranking public officials necessary for the continuation of a joined polity. Perhaps he was, in his own way, acting “presidential.” Quite foolishly, however, he thought that the same courtesy would extend to him. Somehow, two impeachments by Democrats didn’t wake him up to the fact that they will break every norm to fulfill their fever dream of seeing him in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit.

In doing so, however, the Democrats are sowing the seeds of their own destruction. Just as when Harry Reid blew up the judicial filibuster in 2012, it led Republicans to take the majority of the Supreme Court, this too will blow up in Democrats’ faces. Republican Attorneys General should all be looking into potential crimes that Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, or anyone else may have committed. We know they all take classified documents home; we all know they have a lot more money than their public salaries would indicate. The time for any sort of civility is over. If they want to play hardball, it’s the moral obligation of the Republican Party to the nation to play hardball back. We cannot have single party rule in this country.

So, while the Democrats cheer today, this is not the end of the story. This is merely the beginning.
