Whether you’re a beginner or adept at applying your makeup, there are always tips to simplify makeup and serve as a quick fix for mistakes. You can incorporate some of the following to your routine.

  1. Flawless Foundation Begins at the Bottom

Whether you use a water or oil-based foundation, make sure your face primer has the same base so that they will not counterbalance one another and slide off your face. If they are not compatible, blending will be difficult.

  1. Formula Matters

If you want full coverage, there’s no need for heavy foundation.  Instead, opt for a formula that gives maximum coverage but still looks like your skin and does not appear cakey. The best way to achieve a natural look is to smooth over skin with clean fingers and then blend out the lines with a sponge.

  1. Avoid Peach Fuzz

Always apply your foundation with downward strokes, since that is the direction in which the hair grows. Although it may not show, most people have a thin layer of facial hair called peach fuzz. Applying foundation in upward strokes will actually make hair stand out. However, even if you apply makeup perfectly but do have facial hair, it will be visible. It’s therefore best to remove it permanently with electrolysis.

  1. Know the Power of Powder

Powder usually comes in loose or pressed form, from dewy to matte finishes. It’s best to know which formula to use and when. To set makeup in place and create longevity, use loose, translucent powder. Pressed powder is best suited for touch-ups and on-the-go. Dewey formulas work best for dry skin, while matte formulas are better for oily skin.

  1. Brush on Beauty

Part of makeup application depends on the applicator, which is especially true with powder. It’s best to use the fluffiest brush to apply powder in order to achieve the best results.

  1. Glow from Within

If you want that natural flush, opt for a cream or liquid blush and apply over your foundation before setting with powder. Remember, creams and liquid are generally applied before powder.

  1. Shimmery Blushes are Not a One-Size-Fits-All

Be careful with shimmery blushes if you have large pores, blemishes, or any other flaws. Shimmer in this area will only highlight and showcase the problem.

  1. DIY Bronzer

If you want to experiment and have some fun, try making a natural bronzer from items in your kitchen pantry. Take some cinnamon powder, cocoa powder, nutmeg powder and mix with some cornstarch and you instantly have a chemical-free bronzer. Mix well and conduct a patch test first to ensure you don’t get patchiness during the application or any adverse reaction to ingredients.

  1. Feathery Strokes

If you have sparse eyebrows, use an eyebrow pencil and apply with light feathery strokes. This will give you a more natural look.

  1. Instant Eye Lift

To lift your eyes, use a dab of highlighter just above the arch of your brows and blend out. This will create a dramatic impact on the appearance of your entire face.

A few simple tricks can go a long way to give you that beautiful, polished, and flawless face.  Remember, makeup is not a science but an art.
