While Americans were wondering whether the banking crisis is over, when food inflation will be brought under control and concerned about a market selloff, stunning news about an attempted coup in Russia shocked us all.

Are those booming construction sounds getting on your nerves, or are they music to your ears, helping New York get up and running post-pandemic?  Some may answer “Yes” to the first while others answer “Yes” to the latter.  But we should welcome these sounds, because without them, we’d all be in trouble. 

Where there’s smoke there must be fire, but nobody has to remind New Yorkers about that.  Our friends in Canada already have.

The weather on June 7 was quite pleasant for this time of year, but all those who went outside to enjoy it received a nasty jolt.  Heavy smoke from fires in Quebec were blown hundreds of miles to New York and other areas.

You don’t have to be an expert to realize retailing is up against the ropes.  The industry has lost many thousands of employees, thousands of stores have already closed, and experts are warning that many thousands more could follow.  

Food prices are already high, and experts predict they’ll go even higher.  Considering this the amount of food that’s wasted regularly is mind-boggling.     

 Is New York City on a collision course with disaster?  Some very savvy observers believe it is.  Their opinion is important because if the city does collapse putting all the pieces together again will be both very difficult and very painful.
