Rabbi Avi Weiss wrote an excellent article titled “J’Accuse,” meaning “I accuse,” after the words of a courageous writer named Émile Zola, who accused the French of committing a terrible travesty by convicting and imprisoning Jewish French soldier Alfred Dreyfus for treason in 1894. He called for the country to do some introspection regarding the travesty it had wrought upon an innocent Jew.

The Mishnah in Taanis (26b) tells us that there were no days as festive in Israel as the 15th of Av (Tu B’Av), which was celebrated last week, and Yom Kippur, when Jewish maidens would go out into the vineyards and dance as single men watched. They would say, “Young man, see what you choose for yourself.” Some wits would compare this to Sadie Hawkins, the fictional character in Li’l Abner who switches the norm and has women invite men to date them.

In a bill sponsored by Republican Thomas Massie, Congress voted by a margin of 314 to 104 not to embargo arms sales to Israel. Every Republican besides Massie voted against it. Democratic notables such as Nancy Pelosi voted in favor. Disturbingly, Jewish Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland, who previously had been an Israel supporter, also voted in favor.

Abdul El-Sayed won his primary election against Haley Stevens last week to become the Democratic candidate for United States senator from Michigan. The result was a lot closer than had been forecast, with 1% separating the two. But El-Sayed may owe his good fortune to his friend, ultra-leftist podcaster Hasan Piker.
