The yearly National Shomrim Kaddish Memorial Service was held this past Monday, May 13, at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC, in the presence of members of the Israeli Police. Rabbi Tzvi Berkowitz, Founder of Project Talmai, was joined by Patrick Yoes, President of the National Fraternal Order of Police, and their chaplain, Rick Snyder.
Israel is a country of over nine million people, predominantly Jewish, but also 20-percent Arab from all denominations, amongst other minority groups. When people travel throughout the land, they get a sense of the integral part that the Israel Police play in maintaining law and order.
“When one experiences the vast and diverse landscape of our Holy Land, it is truly amazing that, relatively speaking, a small police force performs so much, not only for the people of Israel, but for the visitors,” said Rabbi Berkowitz who encourages visitors to spend time at the various Israeli police and Border Police command sites nationwide. “Visits like these will demonstrate our deep appreciation for their work.”
Similarly, our communities should seek to represent themselves when officials from these departments visit the United States, explained the rabbi who also helps arrange their lodging on these visits.
