NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch has promoted Yisroel Hecht, a Lubavitcher chasid from Crown Heights, to Deputy Commissioner of IT. He officially stepped into the role on Monday, December 30.

The announcement, made last Thursday, is part of a broader strategy to reshape the NYPD’s leadership with executive-level promotions aimed at advancing innovation, modernizing operations, and boosting public safety citywide.

“This team of skilled leaders will drive the transformation of NYPD tech, modernize our fleet, and ensure Courtesy, Professionalism, and Respect remain central to how we serve the public,” said Tisch.

Tisch added, “New Yorkers can trust that these promotions will strengthen the NYPD, enhance services, and make our city safer. I’m grateful for their dedication and look forward to working with them to reduce crime and build public trust.”

Hecht brings 25+ years of expertise in leading large-scale tech initiatives and improving critical systems. Previously, he served as Deputy Comm. of Infrastructure Mgmt. for the NYC Office of Tech. and Innovation. His career includes leadership roles across several city agencies, including NYPD Director of IT Services, where he partnered with Tisch on major tech advancements.

Hecht also served as NYC’s Chief Info. Security Officer and Associate Comm. of Network & Telecom. at the Dept. of IT & Telecom. (DoITT).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, his work at DoITT ensured seamless city operations, providing critical support and info to residents.

Known for delivering secure, scalable solutions that enhance public safety and operational efficiency, Hecht is poised to lead transformative tech initiatives at the NYPD, furthering the department's mission to serve and protect every NYC neighborhood.
