Colors: Blue Color

In the Gemara (Bava M’tzia 59a), we learn that since the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash the gates of t’filah have been closed. However, our sages teach us that the power of t’filah from the heart, combined with a complete trust in Hashem and awareness that He is the One in control of the world, can break through all the gates of Heaven, and there is nothing that can stand in its way. There is nothing stronger than prayer with closeness and love of Hashem; it breaks all barriers and can change what has been decreed.

Who’s running and what do they stand for?

Less than eight weeks remain to the Queens Borough President special election replacing Melinda Katz who recently assumed the role of Queens District Attorney. Early voting begins on March 14 in what is viewed as a low turnout election. The borough president’s main job is to ensure that our government represents our values and reflects the culturally diverse nature of all Queens neighborhoods and its 2.4 million inhabitants. We will explore the Queens issues highlighting each candidate’s campaign.

The Orthodox Union – the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization – applauds New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his proposal to expand eligibility to synagogues and other houses of worship as part of New York State’s Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes Grant Program.

Well over 200 representatives from Kew Gardens Hills and its neighboring communities joined on Sunday afternoon, January 26, for an informative safety training course at the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills. Attendees were educated on safety tips and how to be better aware of their surroundings, and were shown preventative behaviors and ideas for risk reduction when in precarious settings.
