Psalms 113-118 constitute the Hallel (Praise). These psalms focus on Hashem’s saving power and are used during Pesacj, Shavuos, Sukkos, and Chanukah to praise Him for various aspects of His saving power.
There is something very natural about saying Hallel, praising Hashem for His kindness. The very word “Jew” is an adaptation of the Hebrew word Yehudi, which means “praiser.” David HaMelech says in T’hilim, “Give thanks to the Lord, call out in His name; make His deeds known among the nations… Sing to Him, play music to Him, speak of all His wonders.” There are many sources in T’hilim that speak about thanking and praising as a means of prayer.
Whenever we need salvation or want to connect to Hashem, we can do so with gratitude! Thanking Hashem for the seemingly bad or good will strengthen our emunah and change our life forever! When Hashem sees that a person is grateful for every situation (even those that don’t look good in his eyes), Hashem says, “I will show you what really good is, so you can thank me even more”! It then opens up a different and higher pipeline filled with an abundance of miracles for praise and all of mankind. [#ThankYouHashem]
According to the teaching of Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, “Before we make any request, we praise the Master of the Universe. We praise Him for the beauty of the world He has made. We praise Him for rescuing the widow, the orphan, and the oppressed. We praise Him for the simple things, the lowly things, the everyday things that go unnoticed. In that way, we are bringing Him into our world, and our prayers have an effect in this world.” [Maamar L’havin Inyan haRashbi]
