In honor of Veterans Day, Rambam welcomed Syd Mandelbaum, whose life blends military service, scientific achievement, and charitable work.
Mr. Mandelbaum served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He later founded Rock and Wrap It Up! – a nonprofit recovering unused food from concerts, schools, sporting events, and hotels. Millions of meals have been distributed under his leadership.
He urged students to use their talents to improve the world. As a child of Holocaust survivors, he described joining the US military out of hakaras ha’tov. He shared stories, including organizing a minyan in a military hospital.
Principal Dr. Hillel Goldman presented him with a plaque in recognition of his service. Rambam also announced that it will “adopt” an American soldier, sending care packages overseas.
