A new chapter is unfolding for Forest Hills and Rego Park with the appointment of Captain Daniel P. Fennessey as commanding officer of the NYPD’s 112th Precinct. Taking over in February 2025 following the leadership of Captain David F. Cordano, who now leads the 115th, Captain Fennessey brings a wealth of experience earned over more than fifteen years of dedicated service. Since joining the NYPD in January 2010, he has held a variety of roles across the 75th and 77th Precincts, Patrol Borough Brooklyn North, and the Internal Affairs Bureau—experience that has shaped his balanced approach to proactive policing and community engagement.

In his introductory remarks to Community Board 6, Captain Fennessey laid out a clear and focused vision: addressing quality-of-life crimes, targeting burglaries and domestic violence, engaging local youth proactively, and making officer morale a cornerstone of precinct culture. Central to his strategy is strengthening the Neighborhood Coordination Officer (NCO) program, ensuring officers have the time and resources to build meaningful, lasting relationships with residents and businesses rather than being diverted by routine patrols.

Captain Fennessey also emphasized transparency and accessibility, encouraging residents to stay engaged through monthly Community Council meetings and the precinct’s active social media presence. Under his leadership, the 112th Precinct is not simply aiming to respond to crime—it is working to prevent it by forging stronger bonds of trust and collaboration with the community. As Forest Hills and Rego Park continue to grow and evolve, Captain Fennessey’s leadership signals a future where safety, connection, and partnership remain at the forefront of neighborhood life.
