Dear Editor:
As a lifelong Republican, I want to tell people to vote for Cuomo. Cuomo is our only chance to stop Mamdani. In all polling, Sliwa has no chance. I know Sliwa says Cuomo should drop out, but if that happens, Mamdani wins in a landslide. However, if Sliwa drops out and it becomes Mamdani vs. Cuomo, depending on the poll, it is either 45/41 or 47/44 Mamdani/Cuomo. The only way to save our community and New York City is to support Cuomo.
I know many in the community have issues with Cuomo because of what he did during COVID, and I do as well. However, he did eventually apologize—however late it was. Sliwa, however, has his own problematic history. For years he defended his vile comments about Chasidim made in 2018 and only gave a partial apology a few months ago. His wife has also made reprehensible comments about Israel throughout the Israel–Hamas war, similar to what Mamdani has said. While his wife is not him, Curtis has refused to comment on her remarks and has avoided addressing them.
To those Republicans who still want to vote for Sliwa out of a misguided notion of supporting the Republican candidate no matter what—that does not apply here. Sliwa has repeatedly sabotaged multiple Republican races when he felt his ego was slighted if they didn’t conduct their campaign as he wanted them to. This was even when he had no involvement in the campaign and approached unsolicited. In some cases, the campaigns never rejected him or even interacted with him, but GOP leadership told him to step back, yet he took it out on those campaigns. At least two races, possibly more, are believed to have been lost because of his interference. If he feels no loyalty to Republican candidates or to the party’s success in New York City and puts himself above the Republican Party’s interests, why should anyone support him when he is now putting himself above saving the city? For all his talk about migrant shelters, Sliwa has also said he will refuse to work with President Trump on deporting illegals and will stop ICE from operating in NYC.
Sliwa did not even win a primary. Several Republican candidates qualified for the ballot, but he had allies among election commissioners who disqualified them—two on questionable grounds. Neither had the resources for an expensive challenge.
Currently, the far Left and the DSA are pouring funds into Sliwa’s race and encouraging him to stay in, using much of the same rhetoric about fair elections and democracy that he is using. They are supporting him because they know that every vote for Sliwa helps them. Sliwa knows this, but his ego is too large. He also has a long-standing personal grudge against Cuomo and would rather harm New York City than see Cuomo win. For him, it is about Curtis, not about the people or the city.
A vote for Sliwa is a vote for Mamdani. We can work with Cuomo. As bad as he is, we know what to expect. Four years of Mamdani will destroy the city and the Jewish community. Four years of Cuomo will keep things roughly as before, but we will have a mayor who owes our community favors and can help us. In four years, we can find better candidates for mayor.
Stop Mamdani. Vote Cuomo.

Sleeping Beauty
Dear Editor:
Why can’t I turn into Sleeping Beauty or Rip Van Winkle when I’m on a plane? I’ve gotten a myriad of suggestions to help me fall asleep on the ten- to twelve-hour trip to and from Israel. So far, nothing has worked. I’m trying to recall what puts me to sleep. Perhaps I should recall the lessons about Beowulf or The Canterbury Tales. Maybe The Fast and the Furious franchise—which actually put me to sleep—could be a sleeping aid. I won’t mention how many times I’ve drifted off during a rabbi’s drashah (that’s my fault, not his). Even baseball games can send me adrift.
“Take melatonin,” everyone suggests. That helps me sleep a little bit, but then for the next couple of days I’m in “la-la land,” and I’m not referring to the movie. I move more slowly, and it takes me longer to do the most basic chores—like inserting the Keurig pod into the machine and pressing the button. Did I daven and say Tehillim, or did I just do the morning crossword puzzle? Did I pay my bills, or will my lights go off and someone repossess my Subaru? Come to think of it, do I have a Subaru or a Honda?
The plane isn’t built for sleeping, especially the “cheap economy seats.” The stewardess completely skipped our row, claiming we were asleep. Trust me, nothing could be further from the truth. Then there are the announcements: If you buy $100 of cigarettes, you can get $15 off another item like booze. Is El Al trying to kill us?
Here’s a suggestion: The airline should buy pacifiers and give them (free, of course) to parents of young tots aged 0–5. When giving directions for seat belts and air masks, include inserting pacifiers into all mouths of babes. Then, maybe—just maybe—one can get a couple of minutes of shut-eye. Sweet dreams!

Dear Editor:
The Democrat Party has fallen to new depths as they cry crocodile tears and whine about the President revitalizing the East Wing of the White House. “History is being defaced and erased,” they claim. What about the statues of our founders that they tore down? What about the military bases named for and statues of Confederates—Democrats—that they insisted needed to be changed and taken down? The President, a builder, feels it necessary for there to be a ballroom in the White House to host foreign dignitaries. Why that’s such a bad thing, I don’t know. He’s not the first President to make changes to the building—especially ones that enhance it.
They had several “No Kings” protests last week throughout the country. That would be funny if it wasn’t sad and ironic. They installed Kamala Harris as their nominee after forcing Joe Biden to drop out of the race. No one voted for her. Democrats yell about threats to democracy while their own party is being taken over by Marxist socialists whose dream is to have ultimate power and control of everything in this country. They run to unelected judges to create laws for them, while the President follows the Constitution amid threats of violence going on in every Democrat-run city.
Senator Fetterman of Pennsylvania is now being considered an apostate, and the Democrats are doing everything to defeat him in the next election. He’s pro-Israel and pro-America—that makes him target number one. He wants to keep the government open and continues to vote in favor of ending the shutdown. He wants federal employees to get paid. Schumer and Gillibrand, our disgraceful senators, want to add another $1.5 trillion to the debt. This will push us further toward financial collapse. Fetterman is helping to save us.
After the devastating truck crash in California that killed three last week—and the one in Florida before that—maybe giving illegals driver’s licenses wasn’t such a smart idea after all. Of course, blue states did it for election fraud purposes. The DMV is connected to the Board of Elections, which is why those states do not have voter ID. Now six people have lost their lives simply because Democrats crave power and seek any means necessary to achieve it.
