Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, has been under much scrutiny lately for photoshopping a Mother’s Day photo of her children which then led to the discovery of alterations in an earlier photo featuring her late grandmother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II.
“I have seen the Prince of Wales wearing the kipah at the Buckingham Palace Hanukkah event,” Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis said. “It is a navy velvet cap that was perfectly perched atop his scalp with no signs of folding.”
Critics of the royal family charge that images of the balding crown prince resembled Rabbi Meir Soloveitchik of Congregation Shearith Israel, albeit with lighter hair and roughly the same spot where the hairline meets the exposed scalp.
“When Charles was the royal heir, he had a custom-designed kipah with personal heraldry,” the Chief Rabbi said. “Nobody would accuse him of altering photos, but William is a man of the people and has always worn the second most commonly available kipah next to the plain cotton cap that’s given out at the Kotel.”
